Featured in the truffle barn is an A1 frame showcasing various banknotes donated by guests who have visited the farm from abroad.
The initial concept of displaying foreign currency came from a visit, as a child, to the Tarawhera Hotel around the 1950 or 1960s. The hotel was nestled on the outskirts of Taupo, New Zealand. At the time the hotel allowed children to view the notes and coins displayed in the bar of the hotel and it was from that memory I decided that Macenmist should start something similar.
So at the end on 2019 the concept took fruition with a South African bank note. This money tree is now an evolving story with addition of notes from guests. Each note donated displays the name of the donor and in some instances there is a tale to behold about how the note came to the Bredbo Truffle Farm. Some of these tales have been displayed alongside the notes for children and guests to view in awe just as I did as a small child visiting Tarawhera Hotel.
